Mrs. Kruse
Hello! My name is Cathy Kruse, and I have been Duker’s school physical therapist since 2018. I feel fortunate that I get to work with students at Duker and Riverwood, but also the middle and high schools. It gives me great pleasure to see how the students grow and progress throughout their time in school. As a school-based PT, my goal is to help students fully participate in all aspects of their school day across a variety of environments. Additionally, I like to focus on the overall health and wellness of students to give them confidence to be as independent during their school day as they can be. I have a bachelor’s of science degree in PT from Marquette University and a doctorate degree in PT from the College of St. Scholastica. I have worked in many settings but enjoy the school and hospital settings the most. My husband and I have 3 children who are working professionally in their fields – two in healthcare and one in engineering. I enjoy walking for exercise, cooking, gardening, and being with my family.

Hello! My name is Katie Walter, and I am a Math Interventionist here at Duker! This marks my fourth year at Duker but my 20th year of teaching overall! I hold a Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in English Language Learning. I hold additional endorsements in Special Education and General Education. I have taught grades 4th through 12th, absolutely love 4th/5th grade, and am proud to be a Duker Dragon!
I grew up and continue to live in McHenry with my husband, two children, Frankie (8) and Molly (6), and our dog, Daisy. Outside of the classroom, I love traveling, playing with my kids, practicing yoga, and being outside.
My hope for my students this year is that they gain confidence in their abilities, embrace and learn from each other’s differences, and know that our math room is a safe place to learn from mistakes!

I began my D15 life as a student, where I began Kindergarten at Landmark, and ended at West Campus. Back then, Duker was where I spent my middle school years, but it was called McHenry Junior High.
After high school, I left McHenry for a bit, but ended up coming back to raise my own family. My husband and I have two grown sons (who also went through D15) and one grandson. That little guy has given me a whole new lens from which to view education.
School, learning, and education have always been important to me and my own life has shown me how incredibly valuable, and even life-changing, education can be. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from NIU, then a Master’s from St. Xavier and a second one from Judson University.
This is my 25th year with District 15. I spent 19 years in the classroom (most of those at Duker) before becoming an Instructional Coach. I have taught in three of our D15 schools, 1st - 5th grades. I have had some really incredible kids over the years, and it’s so fun to watch them grow into adults and into who they're supposed to be. I haven’t had kids of my own students yet, but I know that day is coming soon!
